First information about Russian consular activities in Hong Kong refers to 1857. However, at that time consular functions on behalf of Russia were carried out by foreign nationals in Hong Kong. A career Russian Consulate in Hong Kong was opened in 1900. Mr. Mikhail Ustinov, Mr. Konstantin Bologovsky, Mr. Piotr Tiedemann and Mr. fon Ettingen became first Russian consuls in Hong Kong. After the October Revolution the new government closed a number of diplomatic and consular missions abroad including the Consulate in Hong Kong (December 1920).
The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong was established in 1994. Currently Mr. Sergey N. Gritsay is the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
